http://www.wikimapia.org/#y=22253960&x=113904909&z=18&l=0&m=hChina/Hongkong: Tian Tan Buddha 天壇大佛
Since 1976, construction of the Tian Tan Big Buddha had been co-ordinated. The first phase of construction commenced in December 1981. On 4 September 1986, an agreement was signed and works commenced officially. A model 5 metre in height was made with gypsum and then 202 pieces of bronze were casted according to the model. These bronze pieces were then assembled in the factory and welded together on the spot. The crew has gone through a lot of hurdles in the process of design, casting, transport and assembly. Eventually, the assembly work was completed on 2 December 1989. After that, two years were spent in re-alignment of roads and eventually, on 29 December 1993, the grand inauguration ceremony was held.
The Buddha is 34 meters high and weighs 250 tons and is the world's tallest seated bronze Buddha. Visitors have to climb 268 steps in order to reach the Buddha. [See en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tian_Tan_Buddha] |

World / Thailand / Bangkok: Wat Po
Bangkok's oldest temple, the seventeenth-century Wat Po (daily 8am-5pm; B20) is most famous for housing the enormous statue of a reclining Buddha. It lies south of the Grand Palace, close to the Tha Thien express-boat pier. In 1832, Rama turned the temple into "Thailand's first university" by decorating the walls with diagrams on subjects such as history, literature and animal husbandry. The wat is still a centre for traditional medicine, notably Thai massage: a massage here costs B200 per hour. The elegant bot at the centre of the compound has beautiful teak doors decorated with mother-of-pearl, showing stories from the Ramayana, but it is the chapel of the Reclining Buddha, in the northwest corner of the courtyard, that draws the crowds. The image in question is a 45-metre-long gilded statue of plaster-covered brick, depicting the Buddha entering Nirvana. The beaming smile is five-metres wide, the vast black feet are beautifully inlaid with mother-of-pearl showing the 108 lakshanas or auspicious signs which distinguish the true Buddha. |

Офигенная ступа "Shwedagon Paya".
http://www.wikimapia.org/#y=16798661&x=96149613&z=17&l=0&m=a
World / Myanmar / Rangun / Rangoon: The Shwedagon Paya (officially titled Shwedagon Zedi Daw) is a 98 meter gilded stupa located in Yangon, Myanmar. The Paya lies to the west of the Royal Lake on Singuttara Hill thus dominating the skyline of the city. It is the most sacred Buddhist pagoda for the Burmese with relics of the past four Buddhas enshrined within, namely the staff of Kakusandha, the water filter of Konagamana, a piece of the robe of Kassapa and eight hairs of Gautama, the historical Buddha. Вау. Не знал даже, что такое есть. |

World / India / Andhra Pradesh / Qutubullapur: Buddha's statue
Buddha's statue. This statue was immersed in water for more than 2 years, due to a technical failure, before it was rescued and erected. This is supposed to be the largest monolithic statue of Buddha in Asia. It's the brainchild of the then Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Mr. N.T. Rama Rao, the actor-turned-politician. This statue is visible from the banks of the man made lake, Hussain Sagar. The rock on which it is built is called Gibralter rock. |
